Hotel Interactive® marked a significant milestone this week when it hosted BITAC® Purchasing & Design West, which represented the 100th BITAC® event and an opportunity for long-time participants to talk about what they like most about the appointment-based event.

Taking place at Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, CA, the attendees praised in particular the relationship building and family aspect of the events, as well as the charitable initiatives to give back to the community.

Jim Sichta, COO, Broughton Hotels, emphasized the personal relationships.
“I think it’s definitely the relationships, and not only the business relationships. There’s been a lot of social interaction, which has led to a lot of business opportunities and a lot of people referring our company,” he said, adding the word “trust” is key.

Sichta continued, “not only is it beneficial for me to come and see all the vendors, but it’s just having those people I can rely on and trust because I call those people for other things outside their disciplines and for their contacts. I don’t think there’s any better networking avenue.”

Linda Gandel, executive director of procurement, Twin River Worldwide Holdings, also touted the personal side of the relationships she has established over the years at BITAC®. “It’s the people. I sit down at the tables and we spend more time talking about what’s going on personally. We know we have business to talk about but it’s always ‘we’ll get to that’ and we do get to it. That’s my favorite thing,” she said.

Kim Kushner, director of supply, Best Western International, reinforced the point when discussing her favorite aspect. “Getting to know people because I honestly think a lot of our deals are built on relationships. At all these events that you [BITAC®] do you make it easy. Even the assigned seating basically gets people out of their comfort zone,” she noted.

Sergio Dupuy, senior director of procurement, Grace Hotels, detailed some of the benefits as well. “The best part is the networking; meeting new people and finding new products. I’ve been to 5 BITAC®s and every time I find a new vendor and that could easily be 100,000 dollars savings on a couple of projects. It’s the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy beautiful venues. You guys know how to make it happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, a couple of long-time suppliers called attention to the various charitable initiatives of BITAC®, such as the Great Peanut Butter & Challenge, which produces hundreds of meals for the needy at each event.

Kelly Miller, director of sales, Bartech Systems, praised the charitable efforts in particular. “Having charitable functions like this to help out people in need in every community in which you go to that’s a really important thing and everybody agrees with that,” he said.

Miller also touted the ”relationship building” and referenced some other elements of BITAC® that stand out such as having “a sense of family with our colleagues either buyers or suppliers and I would add you folks [BITAC® team].”
